A parabola is a plane curve which is mirror-symmetrical in an approximate U-shape. If parabolas are made of material that reflects sound, then sound that travels parallel to the axis of symmetry of a parabola and strikes its concave side is reflected to its focus, regardless of where on the parabola the reflection occurs. Conversely, sound that originates from a point source at the focus is reflected into a parallel ("collimated") beam, leaving the parabola parallel to the axis of symmetry. The same effects occur with light and other waves. "The music of the spheres was a serious intellectual idea that applied music theory to the search for underlying order in the natural world. Conceived in the 6th century BC, the concept survived for centuries, influencing poets and playwrights, including Shakespeare and Milton, and artists such as Botticelli. It culminated in the 17th century when German astronomer Kepler used the music of the cosmos to give birth to modern astrophysics." The concept The Music of the Spheres came out in the beginning of this year 2020 during our discussion to plan the residency at Inter Art Center. Ultimately, we want to create music that is rooted in this lineage. 1. Music: The First Theory of Everything (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0000kgp) 2. Soeine: I shared historical events, ideas and symbolic images or objects, that have lingered in my mind to formulate concepts behind my current performance series No Man's Land. And Lars noted down the key words: inhumane violence during the first and second World Wars that make me wonder about human nature, Lavinia's tragic fate (in William Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus) of not being able to communicate, the mechanical and material state of being an animal almost like dust, being an outsider, organic object, carnival as a way for humans to let out their animalness suppressed in the human world, without habitual cultural reference, etc.
